1st Customer Review : HOW FAR IS THAT ANYWAY?
This is one of those nifty gadget devices that actually works better than expected - and it quickly becomes a tool that an avid DIY'er can't do without.
I've used the Bosch DLR165K since 2007 and have become addicted to the convenience.
The simplicity of the Stanley TLM165 is the first thing I noticed. It has 5 buttons compared to 10 on the Bosch and both tools basically perform the same functions.
If I was new to these tools, I could operate the Stanley without instructions. Not so with the Bosch.
The function (f) key on the Stanley shows an icon on the display clearly indicating the function you are performing, distance, square, cube or triangle. I also like the signal beeps indicating initiation and completion of a calculation.
I really like the lighted display screen on the Stanley.
The accuracy of the TLM165 is amazing and performs as advertised.

2nd Customer Review : Comparison to Leica Disto D2
I have been happily using the Leica Disto D2 for months and will compare it to the Stanley 165ft version.
Both the Leica and Stanley function great as pure measuring tools. They are both accurate and gave me virtually identical readings on multiple measurements.
A laser measurer is invaluable to measure room dimensions, ceiling heights, and other long distances where a tape measure is incapable or just cumbersome. You only need one person to laser measure compared to a tape measure which often requires a person to hold each end. It is a perfect device for professional or DIY home builders/remodelers. Of note, there is limited range outdoors because daylight will wash out the laser spot rendering it unreadable.
Major advantages of the Leica:

3rd Customer Review : Compact, light, accurate - but only partially water resistant
I own a bunch of electronic tape measures - collected several over the years. Most recently it's been laser instead of sonic. The inexpensive (comparatively) audio / sonic models are under $100. The laser models can cost upwards of $400 for every feature under the sun (Bluetooth and more), while models that do more than you'll probably ever need cost $150-$300. All manufacturers of laser distance measurers offer a few models - and all price the same. The lower the price, the shorter the distance and the fewer the features. Stanley offers three models - 330 feet, 165 feet and 100 feet. These distances are in ideal conditions. Dust, bright light and even high humidity can effect this. So if you're planning on usually measuring towards the high end of a range, say 95 - 100 feet, then you should purchase the next model up - or more. I have the 330 foot version of the Stanley and the Bosch GLR825. The Bosch goes to 800 feet.
