Title : Mitutoyo 293-349 Coolant Proof LCD Micrometer, Ratchet Thimble, 0-1"/0-25.4mm Range, 0.001mm/0.001" Graduation, +/-0.0001" Accuracy, without SPC Output
Description :

The Mitutoyo 293 series Coolant Proof LCD micrometer has a digital single-value LCD readout that displays in inch and metric units with resolution 0.00005” (0.001mm), and a ratchet thimble mechanism that helps provide precise, repeatable measurement.

The micrometer’s electronic microprocessor can hold measurements at any position, convert to absolute value, set a temporary zero position, and return to a true zero reading. On some models, an output jack transmits Statistical Process Control (SPC) data results to a computer or external device through an interface cable (sold separately). The electronics housing has an Ingress Protection 65 (IP65) rating, which means that components are resistant to penetration by dust and debris, and resistant to penetration by liquids and coolant up to the force of a low-pressure (to 30 kilonewtons/meter-squared) water jet.. The spindle and anvil have flat measuring faces and are carbide-tipped for wear resistance. A spindle lock helps provide secure locking of the measurement position. The micrometer includes, and is powered by, a single SR44 silver oxide battery, and comes with a fitted case for storage.

Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot.

Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963, which is headquartered in Aurora, IL.

With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

1st Customer Review : Terrific Mic
I've used a few styles of digital and plain vernier micrometers, and this one by far has impressed me the most. The screw action is very smooth with absolutely no play, and I'm able to repeat measurements to .0001" (with my giant orangutan hands). The digital readout does display to .00005" and with a consistent measuring force, should accurately reflect it.

In the end, it's a micrometer just like any other. Given a choice between this and another tool though, I would absolutely buy the Mitutoyo. It feels great in hand, the display is very quick to update and easy to read, and battery life has so far been phenomenal.

I bought mine though a tool program at work, so it ended up a little cheaper than the price here (not much), but nonetheless this tool is worth the money. Skip the 'economy' brand micrometers and spend the extra couple of dollars; you thank yourself for it. Plus, it looks sexy, and everyone loves a beautiful tool!

For reference, I have the...

2nd Customer Review : First micrometer
This is the first micrometer I've bought or used.
The 'ratcheting' feature means you can turn in the piece that measures without worrying how hard you are turning it against the object. The ratchet starts slipping once it gets to a certain level of force.
I like the auto turn off after 30 minutes of non usage.
As you turn the part that measures, it feels smooth and solid - like a quality instrument.
I have a 20 year old Mitutoyo dial caliper that became inconsistent about 5 years ago - i.e., it was 15 years old at the time. Mitutoyo repaired it without hesitation. Has worked fine since.
3rd Customer Review : Great Product
This is great product for me. It makes my job easier. Whether I am using it at work or at school I trust this brand to be able to make accurate measurments.
