Bosch maximizes versatility with the GLM 80, which is equipped to operate in multiple measurement modes depending on user needs. Indirect length measurement mode provides users the ability to determine inaccessible distances that are obstructed by objects or that lack a reflecting surface by applying the Pythagorean theorem. The minimum/maximum measurement mode comes in handy when evaluating the shortest and longest distances from a fixed point, making it ideal for use when measuring plumb lines (minimum) and diagonals (maximum). Its multi-surface area mode determines the total area of numerous separate surfaces with a shared length or height.
Functional Features
The GLM 80’s built-in tilt sensor adds another dimension of accuracy by calculating 360 angles in two-axis, meaning that it works accurately both horizontally and vertically. And between the tilt-screen technology (the display turns when the GLM 80 is turned more than 75 degrees and is also legible upside down) and the large backlit four-dot matrix screen, the GLM 80 provides optimal viewing in all directions. It automatically stores the last 20 measurements (both distance and angle) in its memory, including the individual measurements that add up to the result and the combinations thereof. And if one particular assessment needs to be permanently stored, users have the option to save it as a constant. Rechargeable via a standard micro-USB port, the integrated lithium-ion battery allows users to make up to 25,000 measurements per single charge.

The GLM 80’s ergonomic design features four flat surfaces for the most comfortable fit in pockets or work belts, and its integrated lithium-ion battery makes its profile even more compact. Its tough design makes it drop-resistant up to three feet, and it’s protected against dust and water (IP 54).

1st Customer Review : Great device with advanced features.
After doing some extensive research on various laser measuring devices, the Bosch GLM80 filtered to the top of my list. It had great max distance capabilites (265ft), accuracy, and was competitively priced, but also had angle measurements that most other devices did not have. The biggest benefit to the angle measurement was it could be used to automatically calculate indirect hieghts and distances. By inderecnt, I mean you could obtain a wall height without actually being at the base of the wall. You could be standing 30ft out from the wall base, shoot up to the top of the wall at and angle, and the device would automatically calculate the height of the wall given the angle you shot at plus the distance (length) of the hypotenuse of the triangle you just formed. Pretty awesome feature, but does depend on the floor and the wall being perpendicular to each other. The double angle measurement feature is nice as well. 2nd Customer Review : Very useful instrument
I had wanted such a measurement device for home use so my requirements were less about ruggedness than by convenience factors such as size, weight, battery life, intuitive display. I am very please with the choice of the Bosch GLM80, after reading reviews of many other competitor brands and alternate models. For me, metric measurements and use in tight corners and spaces were important. Having a memory of readings sure beats writing down measurements each time after using a tape measure.
3rd Customer Review : Good but not as advertised
The measurer is good for interior measures. But at exteriors, specially under sunlight, it is not useful except in close distances because it's very difficult to see the laser ray at the other side. And it measures a maximum of 50-60 meter; not 80 as claimed. It's very accuarate and well constructed.
