1st Customer Review : consider the added cost
Don't like giving negative reviews but Leica deserves a good thrashing. The D8 performs very well as a distance measurer, as does the D5, which sells for hundreds less. However, I bought the D8 mainly for the bluetooth input feature which, as it turns out, doesn't work on 64 bit Windows 7 machines.
Or so I think, as the company (at least in my case and in the three weeks since I bought it) has given no response. If you are buying this to use with Win7 64 bit, I suggest you ensure that Leica has gotten its act together.

2nd Customer Review : Very good, but falls a bit short for a Leica
Ok, I'm the first to admit it... I'm a Leica fanboy, and for that matter Germanofile... I've got all sorts of top shelf German made stuff.. Miele vacuum, Fein and Festool power tools, Leica sports optics and camera, etc... So when I saw this, I decided that I had to have it. I currently own a Bosch GLM 250 VR which is the professional grade Bosch Distometer and more than sufficient for my causal use, but the fact that this was a Leica made something I was willing to pay a bit of a premium for, since Leica invented the laser distometer and I liked the 360 degree angular features and the idea of a TFT screen appealed to me.
The reason I didn't give this unit 5 starts is strictly on two areas/fronts...
Area 1, Operational: I found it useable, but not as intuitive as I'd like.. certainly not iPhone like in terms of usability. On the Bosch, I was able to more or less use most of its features with little reference to the manuals, however this unit was quite cryptic...
3rd Customer Review : Leica Disto D8 _ bad warranty
I purchased this equipment in November 2011, now after 7 months of light usage the equipment is not starting for no apparent reason, I spoke with regional manager for Leica "Greg", who said that they can do nothing about that since the plastic screen cover was cracked, the plastic cover cracked about a month after purchase from a very light impact which did not affect the performance of the equipment, and now they don't want to even look at the equipment because of this. beware of Leica's useless long warranty, and the delicate equipment that may crack from falling a foot off the ground, their customer support sux
