1st Customer Review : Great meter
My old Walmart meter was giving me very wild readings so I looks around for something to replace it. The Extech meters had a good reputation for a mid range quality meter so I decided this one fit the bill.
My primary use is for light pinball machine repair and automotive use aroun my Jeep and camper. The IR temp sensor is great for checking tire temps on the camper and checking hub temps to make sure the bearings aren't in need of lube.
I'm very happy with the meters performance and the pricing with the fearure set.

2nd Customer Review : EX-230
This is an excellent meter except the thermocouple function is inaccurate by about 4 degrees. The first one I bought and returned was off by over 30 degrees. The IR thermometer function is right on. I would recommend this meter to a friend who was not checking deep freezers with a probe.

Does what you buy a DMM for with some handy extra features. I dropped my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars for the following reasons.
The battery compartment also houses the 2 fuses. Both shoud have a rubber insulation cover over them, One is missing. This indicates a weakness in quality control. Secondly, the temperature function measures temperature both with IR and with a "K" probe. On my meter the "K" probe reading is 10 Degrees less than the IR reading at room level temperatures with the IR reading being correct and within 2 degrees of true. I have verified the reading and the "K" error using a NIST traceable Thermopen thermometer with a guaranteed accuracy of <.7 degrees F. Overall it's a lot of meter for the price and if you are like me you will measure temperatures using the IR a lot more often than the "K" type probe.
