Bosch maximizes functionality with the GLM 80, which is equipped to operate in multiple measurement modes depending on user needs. Indirect length measurement mode provides users the ability to determine inaccessible distances that are obstructed by objects or that lack a reflecting surface by applying the Pythagorean theorem. The minimum/maximum measurement mode comes in handy when evaluating the shortest and longest distances from a fixed point, making it ideal for use when measuring plumb lines (minimum) and diagonals (maximum). Its multi-surface area mode determines the total area of numerous separate surfaces with a shared length or height.
Functional Features
The GLM 80’s built-in tilt sensor adds another dimension of accuracy by calculating 360 angles in two-axis, meaning that it works accurately both horizontally and vertically. And between the tilt-screen technology (the display turns when the GLM 80 is turned more than 75 degrees and is also legible upside down) and the large backlit four-dot matrix screen, the GLM 80 provides optimal viewing in all directions. It automatically stores the last 20 measurements (both distance and angle) in its memory, including the individual measurements that add up to the result and the combinations thereof. And if one particular assessment needs to be permanently stored, users have the option to save it as a constant. Rechargeable via a standard micro-USB port, the integrated lithium-ion battery allows users to make up to 25,000 measurements per single charge.
The Perfect Pairing
The GLM 80’s ergonomic design features four flat surfaces for the most comfortable fit in pockets or work belts, and its integrated lithium-ion battery makes its profile even more compact. Its tough design makes it drop-resistant up to three feet, and it’s protected against dust and water (IP 54). When inserted into the R 60 level attachment, it automatically adjusts to the digital level mode. An audio signal signifies when 0 degrees, 90 degrees, and 180 degrees are reached—both with and without the R 60—and two bubble vials are incorporated into the attachment for supplementary reference.

1st Customer Review : Accuracy + time saving = essential tool
My husband and I are in the midst of a huge remodel and we are doing most of the interior work ourselves. Up to now, we have been making due with a conventional tape measure and level. I will never, ever waste my time with those again - for most measurements. The amazing convenience and accuracy of the Bosch GLM80 with R60 level is truly a joy and soon becomes an addictive necessity. The big pluses are:
* Measure across a room with the press of a button. As simple as that sounds, just imagine not moving lumber, stepping over tools and around saw horses and getting someone to hold the other end of a tape. Just press a button
* Get a quick measurement with a single button push or keep the laser on for constant measurement
* Indirect measurements - for example measure the height of a wall from a position many feet away from the wall
* The unit reads the level while measuring distance so it is easy to get the measure you want on the angle...

2nd Customer Review : Outstanding Tool - Highly Recommended
This Bosch GLM80 Laser Distance Measurer with R60 Level works great for measuring distance, indicating tilt, and performing area calculations, and is generally an amazingly useful tool. We already own (and really like) the very useful Bosch GLR225 Laser Distance Measurer and use it almost daily as we renovate a building we bought for our small business, and this unit is even better in all regards.
The GLM80 can be used as a standalone unit or mounted in the 24" long R60 aluminum level, and automatically enters the correct mode. The display is backlit and is auto-rotating, making it easy to read at any angle. Taking basic measurements is one-hand easy, press the main button, aim the laser, press the main button again, and the result is displayed. The distance measurements have been very accurate when tested against known lengths (we tested it out to 213.5').
